My grandma, now a great-grandma many times over, occasionally stays up till the wee hours of the morning, absorbed in the pages of a book. When I asked about her reading habits, she quoted scripture and blamed her mother.
"You know the verse," she said, "Raise up a child in the way it should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it. When I was young, my mother taught me to love reading. Now that I am old, I have come back to it."
