Cutting for Stone - Teddie

I just picked up the book yesterday at the library and haven't started it yet, but as we are going camping this weekend, perhaps Ill have some time to read! Sounds like an interesting book

Yeah for Kevin. He posted a comment on the previous blog relating to Cutting for Stone. He's my hero!!! A few suggestions from the discussion leader..... Instead of commenting on my blog... please post your feelings about the book as a separate POST. Postings are much more visible than comments. PERHAPS anyone who writes a post about this book should label it either Cutting for Stone #2, Cutting for Stone #3..... and so on or Cutting for Stone - Kevin, Cutting for Stone - Teddie, ... you get the idea. I hope you are reading the book. Is anyone reading it.... How about a post. Did the beginning grab you?

Cutting for Stone #1

Jesse told me I was in charge of leading the discussion (on-line) for this book, probably because I ranted and raved about it so much. This was my kind of book, an epic novel filled with new and interesting facts and unexpected twists in the story line. I was introduced to Ethiopia, lots of history, and to a world beyond my own. Interestingly enough, a young man who lived in our building in Athens was the son of one of the rebel factions in Ethiopia... that made everything even more fascinating for me. I read the book a couple of months ago and could not put it down, actually unplug it... because it was on the kindle. Please feel free to post why you like or dislike the book, which character you like, how you felt about the beginning, etc... anything you want!! You don't have to finish the book to post, either. This site will only work if each of you contributes. Happy reading....

summer '09 - Cutting for Stone

Our first book will be: Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese. While looking at another one of Verghese's books, I realized that I read an article about him recently. The article gives a brief introduction to the author and why he recently moved to Palo Alto.

(Some people voted by email-- I think the final tally was 5 for Verghese and 2 for Kurson).

Welcome to our family book club. If I forgot to invite someone, please let me know.

After extensive conversation with members in RI and Athens, it has been decided that:

1) We will read four books a year.
2) For now, it's just family.
3) Comments will be moderated.
4) We will vote to decide each book.

Of course, these rules may be changed if things don't seem to be working.
